The Friends of Wisconsin State Parks is a dedicated network of nonprofit organizations committed to enhancing and preserving the natural beauty and recreational opportunities within Wisconsin’s state parks, forests, trails, and recreation areas. With over 50 local Friends Groups across the state, we invite you to join us in our mission to protect and promote these cherished spaces.
What is a Friends Group?
A Friends Group is a nonprofit organization that actively supports Wisconsin’s natural resources through volunteer efforts. These groups work closely with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to provide essential services and improvements to state parks and recreational areas.
What Do Friends Groups Do?
Friends Groups contribute significantly through various activities, including:
- Volunteer Work: Members dedicate thousands of hours annually to park clean-ups, trail maintenance, and special events.
- Event Planning: Organizing community events such as candlelight nights, educational programs, and festivals.
- Fundraising: Raising funds for park improvements like playground equipment, interpretive displays, and educational materials.
- Advocacy: Supporting policies that benefit state parks and promoting conservation efforts.
